Court sets final deadline for Hontex to file defence

The Court of First Instance today ordered Hontex International Holdings Company Limited (Hontex) to file its defence to the Statement of Claim filed by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) by 3 January 2012 after granting Hontex a further extension (Note 1).
This was the second time the Court granted extension to Hontex to file the defence (Note 2).
Hontex told the Court today that it needed more time to prepare its defence. The Court subsequently granted Hontex a 22-day extension and ordered that unless Hontex file and serve a defence by 4 pm on 3 January 2012, it will be barred from filing a defence.

2. According to orders made by the Court of First Instance on 22 July 2011, Hontex had to file the defence within 56 days after the SFC has filed the Statement of Claim which is on or before 25 November 2011. On 28 November 2011 the Court granted a two-week extension to Hontex to file the defence by 12 December 2011. Please see SFC’s press release dated 28 November 2011.
