Manager - Data Analytics Group, Supervision of Markets

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Scientist to join our dynamic and innovative Data Analytics Group (DAG).

The Data Analytics Group serves as an interface between all divisions of the Securities and Futures Commission, playing a pivotal role in driving informed decision-making and strategic initiatives. DAG harnesses the power of data to uncover valuable insights and drive actionable recommendations. By collaborating closely with the various divisions, we ensure that our analyses and findings align with the diverse needs and objectives of the Commission. Through our comprehensive approach, we empower the SFC to make data-driven decisions and stay ahead of the curve.

Duties & Responsibilities:

As a Data Scientist, you will report to the Head of Data Analytics Group and play a crucial role in leading and managing projects, ensuring the successful delivery of data-driven solutions and insights to drive business growth and innovation.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the end-to-end data science project lifecycle, from ideation to implementation, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Drive the development and implementation of advanced analytics models and algorithms to solve complex business problems.
  • Leading the research and development of proof-of-concept prototypes for data science solutions.
  • Supervise the support and enhancement of existing data science solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including stakeholders from various divisions, to understand business needs and develop data-driven solutions.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field of data science and analytics and identify opportunities to leverage new technologies and techniques.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to the team members and coaching and training to SFC staff, to promote broader understanding and adoption of data science techniques on regulatory works.

Requirements:

  • Advanced university degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data science or related roles, with a proven track record of delivering successful data-driven projects.
  • High proficiency in Python programming (SAS is a plus), and experience working with relational and non-relational databases.
  • Expertise in utilising machine learning algorithms and statistical modelling techniques to extract insights from complex data sets.
  • Experience with classification & regression models, clustering methods, time series analysis, Natural Language Processing. Knowledge of Transformers a plus.
  • Work experience in the financial sector (regulatory, banking, insurance) is a plus.
  • Knowledge or experience with project management methodologies, particularly Agile, and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable using Linux operating systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SDLC and MLOps to deploy Machine Learning models as APIs is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of data visualization techniques and tools, such as Power BI or/and Tableau or any other tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Be self-motivated and result oriented.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
