Temporary Manager (6-Month Contract) – Intermediaries

Reporting to a Senior Manager, you will be part of a team responsible for supervising intermediaries, with a focus on their business conduct, financial risks, and operational risks. In addition to the supervision of intermediaries in the traditional business sectors, the scope of the team’s work also extends to fintech space, including digital assets.   

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Monitor and supervise intermediaries’ business conduct, risk and compliance with relevant regulatory requirements on an ongoing basis, with an initial focus on traditional financial intermediaries;
  • Assess intermediaries’ financial and operational resilience, identify key risks and regulatory breaches, take swift actions, and handle complaints against intermediaries;
  • Assess virtual asset service providers’ business models, services and products as required;
  • Communicate regulatory expectations and concerns professionally;
  • Proactively identify market-wide and industry-specific risk issues and assess their impact on intermediaries, formulate regulatory responses and policy initiatives to address key issues identified; 
  • Monitor global as well as local policy, industry and market developments to assess intermediaries’ practices and operational controls with respect to new products or activities, and contribute to the assessment of local and global sectoral risks; and
  • Monitor global and local financial market dynamics and gather market intelligence from intermediaries, especially during major market volatilities. 
     

Requirements:

  • At least 7 years of solid work experience gained in top tier global financial institutions in relation to financial or operational risk control;  
  • Industry experience in both sell side and buy side, digital asset or tokenisation will be an advantage;
  • High familiarity with the business practice, operational logistics, internal control, and trading risk management at asset managers or brokers;
  • Good knowledge of financial markets and products;
  • Able to independently gather necessary information through structured enquiries, identify control deficiencies and irregularities expeditiously, make sound recommendations to supervisor, and convey regulatory response to intermediaries in a well-structured manner;
  • Able to explain, articulate and present complex cases, arguments and analysis confidently, clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing;
  • Self-motivated to continuously acquire new knowledge and keep abreast of market developments, and able to assess their implications for intermediaries;
  • Able to understand technical concepts and leverage experience, and apply them in new context and in practical regulatory assessment;
  • Strong command of written and spoken English and Chinese is required, and proficient Putonghua for business communication is preferable;
  • Be an assertive and an active team player, versatile, fast-paced, be able to work independently and cope with pressure; and
  • A strong sense of responsibility and impeccable integrity is essential.
