Corporate Social Responsibility

As a member of the Hong Kong community, the SFC takes its social responsibility seriously.

At the SFC, we take into account the context of our operating environment and how that impacts our staff, our external stakeholders and society as a whole. To us, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a measure of value and a core intangible asset; it is also the cornerstone to goodwill.

In today’s increasingly open society, we believe that we are judged not just by our regulatory performance but also by whether our social conduct is consistent with our position as a statutory body. CSR is about our organisation’s obligations beyond the legal or statutory minimums. It is about recognising stakeholder expectations and acting in a socially responsible manner. But to a large extent, CSR reflects our culture.

Besides practising personnel integrity, ethical standards and a caring culture internally, we try to give back something to the society from which we draw resources. In so doing, we ensure that growth is sustainable. We aim to achieve a win-win situation as follows, using an appropriate and pragmatic CSR policy:

  • improve our appeal as an employer in the eyes of prospective employees;
  • improve our reputation among external stakeholders and the general public; and
  • assist in controlling the costs of certain resources we use in the course of our operations.

In practising CSR, we also set an example of good corporate citizenship for the many companies that we interact with.

Overall Policy

As a statutory body, our very existence is to serve society. But we are prepared to take our accountability further both internally and externally by creating value for our staff, building meaningful relationships with various stakeholders, fostering sound management, promoting sustainable growth within our working environment, and benefiting the community as a whole.
